I’m really getting frightened. Frightened of what is happening to some of the folks in this wonderful country. I continue to peruse Facebook posts by some of my friends and some of their friends, and I have to admit that I’m almost ashamed to admit that I’m a citizen of the United States of America. Almost.
No matter what the latest controversy is, some people just can’t seem to restrain themselves and hold back the blustering ignorance and hatred that pervades their posts on Facebook. I don’t mean to pick on the conservative lot, but recently they seem to have a corner on the judgement block and bar no holds when expressing their displeasure. I understand frustration, I’ve been there many times. But when it turns personal and folks begin making treats and advocating bodily harm or killing someone, I get a little concerned that this ranting might be more than just idle conjecture. Of course, the liberal side has made their fair contributions to these controversies, but in a far less menacing way.
I have to wonder, then, if these folks who park on the conservative side of the bench also profess themselves to be good Christians? After all, that is one of the foundations of the conservative philosophy. But to read their rants and childish gibberish in their Facebook posts, I have to wonder just how closely they attune themselves to their religious beliefs. It’s hard for me to accept that Christians could profess such hatred and ill will toward their fellow citizens. Such hypocrisy!
So, is that what our country is coming too? You don’t like the way something goes and you start with he hate campaigns and advocate violent acts against someone you dislike? That’s certainly not the country I know. As for our future, yeah. I’m getting scared.
